Artisan Silk: This long haori jacket is made from meisen silk, a favorite silk among collectors because of its bold designs. In the late 19th century, the restrictions on the lower classes wearing silk were lifted. Meisen is a type of ikat weave where the threads are dyed and the design created before the fabric is woven, requiring incredible skill and much time to create.
Color and Pattern: The silk is a bold purple with an arresting design of blue, gray and ochre fans.
Reversible: The lining is a thin silk with shibori bands of pink and red. The lining is so beautiful, the jacket can be worn inside out, making this jacket a “two-for one”.
Vintage Condition is Very Good: There is an inconspicuous spot on the lining; otherwise, there were no observable flaws.
One Size Fits Most: Shoulder width: 24 inches, Length: long 34.5 inches. The dropped sleeves allow for a range of shoulder widths and the loose unstructured T-shape accommodates all body types and genders. The sleeves are approximately 11 inches wide and have the traditional kimono opening at the under arm to accommodate multiple layers of robes.
